ASHP Initiative Highlights Your Vital Role in Patient Care

We're Your Pharmacist

In May 2024, ASHP launched a first-of-its-kind national public awareness initiative, We're Your Pharmacist, with a primary goal to broaden understanding of the essential role hospital and health-system pharmacists have in patient care.

Over the past 18 months, through stories and multimedia promotion, the campaign has effectively showcased pharmacists as integral members of patient care teams who work side by side with physicians, nurses, and other providers in settings across the continuum of care.

The multiyear campaign has four key objectives.

  • Raise Public Awareness. Showcase the expertise of pharmacists in managing complex medication regimens, preventing errors, and improving outcomes.
  • Engage Patients and Caregivers. Encourage people to view pharmacists as accessible resources for questions and guidance.
  • Inspire the Next Generation. Introduce students to the diverse career paths available in hospital and health-system pharmacy.
  • Strengthen Professional Recognition. Reinforce for policymakers, healthcare leaders, and other stakeholders that pharmacists are indispensable to safe, high-quality care.

At its core, We’re Your Pharmacist tells real stories through video, social media, podcasts, and the dedicated website YourPharmacist.org. These stories feature pharmacists, other healthcare team members, and patients sharing how pharmacists contribute to medication safety and improved outcomes.

In its first year, the campaign reached more than 87 million people through multimedia efforts and generated over 1.8 million engagements with videos and stories across social media. Moving forward, we are building on this momentum, telling more stories, reaching more people, and expanding direct outreach to students and educators.

The engagement of ASHP members and the broader pharmacy community is vital to the sustained success and impact of We’re Your Pharmacist. Here's how you can get involved.

Share your story and help spread the word

Tell us why you chose to become a pharmacist and what you love most about your job and career path. Help highlight the critical role pharmacists have in patient care, and help inspire a new generation of pharmacists. You can also use campaign resources to highlight your own work and spread the word through social media using the #yourpharmacist hashtag.

Make a donation

The ASHP Foundation recently launched the Paul W. Abramowitz Fund to Enhance Public Awareness of Pharmacy & Inspire the Next Generation of Practitioners. You can donate to this special fund to honor Abramowitz’s legacy and his commitment to enhancing public understanding of pharmacist’s role in optimizing patient care.

Get your organization on board

Hospitals, health systems, schools and colleges of pharmacy, and professional organizations can sign on as official campaign supporters to gain valuable recognition and help amplify and extend the campaign.

Be a part of We’re Your Pharmacist at the 2025 Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition
