AHA, ASHP, and FAH Collaborating on Drug-Pricing Survey

ASHP News

The American Hospital Association (AHA), ASHP, and the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH) are fielding a survey to all community hospitals and health systems to collect quantitative, representative data on pharmaceutical drug spending and the impact of drug shortages. This information is critical to our efforts to educate policymakers and the public about the challenges of high and rising drug prices and to achieve sustainable drug pricing.

The survey request was sent to either system-level CEOs or hospital CEOs, based on the AHA and FAH database. ASHP is suggesting that our members reach out to their CEOs to confirm receipt of the message and offer their assistance in completing the survey. You can view a sample of the survey invitation letter from the three organizations here. For questions about the survey, contact David Chen, Senior Director, ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers, at [email protected].

This drug-pricing survey is a follow-up to the one conducted in 2016: “Trends in Hospital Inpatient Drug Costs: Issues and Challenges.” The results of this survey will be used in continued advocacy by ASHP, AHA, and FAH with Congress, the White House, CMS, and other influencers.
