Message from the CEO: Tragic Shooting at Mercy Hospital in Chicago

Published: November 20, 2018

Dear Colleagues,

By now you may have seen the extremely sad news about yesterday’s shootings at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. We have learned that Dayna Less, a 25-year-old pharmacy resident, recent graduate of Purdue University College of Pharmacy, and ASHP member, was among those killed. I cannot express how shocked, outraged, and saddened we all are about these senseless shootings. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to Dayna’s family, friends, and colleagues as well as those of physician Tamara O’Neal and Officer Samuel Jimenez, who were also killed in the shooting.

ASHP will support our colleagues at Mercy Hospital in every way we can as they work to deal with this incomprehensible event and loss. We also know this event hits very close to home in our pharmacy community and family, and ASHP wants you to know that we are here for you as we all work through what has happened at Mercy Hospital together.

We will share more with you as new developments arise, including how ASHP and our members can help.

I know that we all stand together in this time of grief, and that we will reflect on this horrible event as we give thanks for everything we have over the Thanksgiving holiday and beyond.

Sincerely,
Paul
