Hurricane Ida, a powerful Category 4 storm that hit the Gulf Coast on Sunday, has had a devastating impact on communities since landfall, bringing damaging winds and dangerous flooding to Louisiana. Hospitals and health systems already at or near capacity due to the COVID-19 pandemic had to evacuate patients, in some cases lost power, and are now responding to reports of damage to structures, all while keeping their patients safe.
Yesterday, ASHP reached out to our members in Louisiana to express our concern on behalf of the ASHP Board of Directors and staff, and we reiterate our pledge of support today. We know that threats of more flooding and possible tornado activity remain, and hope that everyone stays safe in the aftermath of this catastrophic storm.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all of our members on the front lines who continue to demonstrate exemplary dedication to their patients, ensuring that they are supported and able to access the care they need through the pandemic as well as through natural disasters such as Hurricane Ida. We greatly respect and admire everyone’s resiliency and dedication.
As a pharmacy community, the safety, health and well-being of our colleagues affected by Hurricane Ida are top of mind for all of us. We hope for the best possible outcome as our members affected by Hurricane Ida navigate through this very difficult and challenging time.
