ASHP, the nation’s largest association of pharmacy professionals, has announced that long-tenured CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD, ScD (Hon), FASHP, will retire from the organization, effective Jan. 31, 2026.
Abramowitz, the organization’s fourth CEO in its storied 82-year history, began his tenure in 2011 and has led ASHP through a period of tremendous growth. Under his leadership, ASHP has reached record heights with 60,000 members, revenues exceeding $61 million, and significant expansion of its world-class educational and professional development offerings. In addition, Abramowitz was a driving force in the creation of The Pharmacy Technician Society (TPTS), a professional membership home for pharmacy technicians, as well as ASHP’s successful national public awareness campaign, We’re Your Pharmacist, which is bringing needed visibility to pharmacy practice in hospitals and health systems. ASHP won multiple local and national top workplace awards during his tenure, including a 2025 USA Today Top Workplace award announced last month.
“ASHP has always been my professional home,” said Abramowitz, who served in several volunteer leadership roles prior to becoming CEO. “It has been the greatest honor of my career to lead this organization for the past 14 years. I am so proud of everything we have accomplished, and truly grateful to have worked alongside the remarkably talented staff, boards, and volunteers who continually inspire me with their dedication and passion for the profession of pharmacy.”
The ASHP Board of Directors will undertake a comprehensive search for Abramowitz’s successor.
“Under Paul’s leadership, our organization has experienced exceptional success, and we are well positioned to achieve great things in the future,” said ASHP President Leigh Briscoe-Dwyer. “We are indebted to Paul for his dedicated service to our members and profession and wish him the very best in his well-deserved retirement.”
