This week, ASHP and other interprofessional peer organizations advocated for clear, accurate communication from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding vaccine information. These advocacy efforts are due to recent changes on the CDC website regarding vaccines and autism.
Through our involvement with the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit Adult Vaccination Recommendations Review Council, we joined leading medical, health, and patient advocacy groups in releasing a statement on CDC autism website changes. The statement reinforces that vaccines are not linked to autism.
To further amplify our concerns, we joined the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases to send a letter to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, asking Congress to ensure that the CDC and other federal science agencies uphold critically important communication practices that are aligned with established evidence.
ASHP has a number of available resources related to vaccines. For the most up-to-date patient medication information, find monographs on most vaccines at www.SafeMedication.com, which also includes patient-friendly articles on vaccines. These resources are written and maintained by pharmacists to promote trusted information and support shared decision-making practices.
