Former VP of Practice Advancement to Fill Role During Transition
Today, the ASHP Board of Directors announced the appointment of Douglas J. Scheckelhoff, BSPharm, MS, FASHP, as interim CEO, effective Feb. 1, 2026.
Prior to his retirement in December 2025, Scheckelhoff served as ASHP's senior vice president of practice advancement. He joined ASHP in 2002 and has played a significant role in the growth and development of many of the organization’s key initiatives, including oversight of the Pharmacy Practice Sections, pharmacy residency and technician training accreditation, medication safety and quality, practice development, and international programs. Scheckelhoff was previously director of pharmacy at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and held leadership positions in academic teaching hospitals.
“Doug brings 24 years of deep organizational knowledge and a proven commitment to the profession,” said ASHP President Melanie Dodd, PharmD, PhC, BCPS, FASHP. “We are thrilled he will extend his contributions to ASHP through his steady leadership during this pivotal time.”
The appointment follows the planned retirement of ASHP’s fourth CEO, Paul W. Abramowitz, PharmD, ScD (Hon), FASHP, on Jan. 31, 2026. Scheckelhoff will serve as interim CEO while the board completes a national search for Abramowitz's permanent successor.
