Board of Directors Awards Honor Practice Excellence, Outstanding Contributions to Healthcare

ASHP is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2025 Board of Directors awards. The following awards will be presented this year during ceremonies at ASHP’s national meetings:

Honorary Membership (ASHP Pharmacy Futures, June 2025)
The ASHP Board of Directors’ Honorary Membership Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to pharmacy practice. Honorary members are elected for life by unanimous vote of the ASHP Board of Directors.

Recipients:

  • Jannet M. Carmichael, BS, PharmD,  BCPS, FAPhA, FCCP, Principal, Amplity Health and President, PHARM CONSULT NV LLC, Reno, Nev.
    Dr. Carmichael is a distinguished pharmacy leader, influential clinical pharmacy practitioner, and mentor. Known for her expertise in clinical practice, primary care, population management and outcomes studies, her strategic vision has advanced the profession in countless ways and inspired numerous future leaders.
  • Bruce E. Scott, MS, FASHP, Healthcare Executive (ret.), Eden Prairie, Minn.
    Mr. Scott is an esteemed pharmacy leader, prominent senior executive, and mentor with over 40 years of sustained contributions to medication safety, home care infusion, and specialty pharmacy. A steadfast champion for pharmacy practice advancement, he has shaped and transformed the profession in numerous ways. He continues to positively influence and guide the next generation of pharmacy practitioners as a member of the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors, the Omnicell Inc. Board of Directors, and the ASHP Visiting Leaders Program.  
  • William E. Smith, PharmD, PhD, MPH, FASHP, Director of Pharmacy Services (ret.), Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Executive Associate Dean and Professor of Pharmacy (ret.), Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy, Midlothian, Va.
    Dr. Smith is a revered pharmacy leader whose unbridled passion for the profession has paved the way for innovative practice models and opportunities for pharmacists to practice to the full extent of their education and training. A pioneer in clinical pharmacy practice, his professional leadership, education, training, and mentorship has greatly influenced the profession.

Award of Honor (60th Midyear Clinical Meeting, December 2025)
The ASHP Board of Directors’ Award of Honor recognizes individuals outside the pharmacy discipline who have made extraordinary national or worldwide contributions to the health field.

Recipients:
  • J. Corey Feist, JD, MBA, CEO and Co-Founder, Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation, Charlottesville, Va.
    Mr. Feist is a well-known author, speaker, and leader dedicated to improving, supporting, and safeguarding the well-being and resiliency of the entire healthcare workforce through research, advocacy, and awareness. Under his leadership, the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes’ Foundation has worked closely with ASHP to enhance the resiliency and well-being of pharmacy professionals.
  • Jonathan B. Perlin, MD, PhD, MSHA, MACP, FACMI, FAMIA, President and CEO, The Joint Commission (TJC) and Joint Commission International, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.
    Dr. Perlin is a prominent physician, influential leader, and staunch advocate for the essential role that health information technologies play in improving quality and sustainability. Since joining TJC, he has been a valuable ASHP collaborator. An internist, healthcare leader, and doctorally trained pharmacologist, his ongoing support of pharmacists as medication experts and advocacy for pharmacist provider status has sparked impactful, profession-wide change and advancement.

Distinguished Leadership Award (60th Midyear Clinical Meeting, December 2025)
The ASHP Board of Directors’ Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes contributions to excellence in pharmacy practice leadership in acute and ambulatory care settings.

Recipient:

  • Kenneth H. Schell, PharmD, RPh, FASHP, FCSHP, Chief of Operations and Pharmacy Consultant, Strom and Associates, Los Angeles, Calif.
    Dr. Schell is a highly respected leader, educator, and mentor with a distinguished career spanning over four decades. An expert in multiple areas of hospital and health -system pharmacy practice, he is a staunch advocate for expanding access to care through the 340B Drug Pricing Program.

Donald E. Francke Medal (60th Midyear Clinical Meeting, December 2025)
The ASHP Board of Directors’ Donald E. Francke Medal honors pharmacists who have made significant international contributions to advance pharmacy practice.

Recipient:

  • Robert J. Moss, PharmD, Vice President, International Pharmaceutical Federation, The Hauge, South Holland, Netherlands
    Dr. Moss is an esteemed leader in international pharmacy. His passion for improving patient care, educating hospital pharmacists and other professional staff, and optimizing health systems through the integration of new IT and eHealth technologies has improved hospital pharmacy services and patient outcomes throughout Europe and globally.

Pharmacy Champion Award (60th Midyear Clinical Meeting, December 2025)
The ASHP Board of Directors Pharmacy Champion Award recognizes leadership in advocacy and public policy that contributes to significant improvements in patient care, drug safety, medication-use outcomes, and advances the vital roles pharmacists play as patient care providers.

Recipient:

  • Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Mpox Medical Countermeasures Unit, Richmond, Va.
    Pharmacists at the VDH demonstrated substantial innovation, leadership, and guidance both during and following the 2022 outbreak of monkeypox (now known as mpox).  Hospitals, health systems, state societies, and health departments across the country heavily relied on the consequential work of the VDH mpox team to inform their mpox initiatives. These resources continue to serve as a model for many within healthcare.

Pharmacy Technician Excellence Award (60th Midyear Clinical Meeting, December 2025)
The ASHP Board of Directors Pharmacy Technician Excellence Award recognizes contributions to excellence in the role of pharmacy technicians, advancement of the pharmacy technician workforce, and advancement of pharmacy practice.

Recipients:

  • Erin Atkins CPhT, CSPT, Lead Pediatric Technician, West Virginia University (WVU) Medicine Children's Hospital, Morgantown, W. Va.
    Ms. Atkins is an outstanding pharmacy technician leader committed to the growth, advancement, and training of the pharmacy technician workforce. With over 15 years of experience in pediatric inpatient pharmacy, she has spearheaded several innovative and technician-focused programs that have enhanced the professionalization of pharmacy technicians, elevated their role within the pharmacy team, and advanced the pharmacy profession.
  • Sheri L. Fulfer, BS, CPhT, RPhT, Program Director – Pharmacy Technology, Casper College, Casper, Wyo.
    Mrs. Fulfer is an exemplary leader and educator dedicated to expanding the role of pharmacy technicians, professionalizing the pharmacy technician workforce, and enhancing the quality of technician education and training opportunities across the country. Her dedication and commitment to the advancement of the pharmacy technician workforce continues to elevate the role of pharmacy technicians and advance the pharmacy profession.
