ASHP President Nishaminy (Nish) Kasbekar welcomed attendees to Portland, Oregon, for the inaugural Pharmacy Futures 2024 conference, an event with top-notch clinical content and special presentations on how artificial intelligence (AI) is affecting pharmacy practice now and in the future.
Kasbekar delivered remarks Monday, June 10, during the meeting’s Opening Session.
Session highlights
Kasbekar emphasized the outstanding opportunities for meeting attendees to network and learn throughout the week.
- The first-ever Summit on AI in Pharmacy Practice continues June 10 with “quality content on contemporary AI applications in pharmacy practice through hands-on instruction and active participation,” Kasbekar said.
- Attendees can satisfy US Pharmacopeia requirements for sterile compounding designated person competency training by registering for special programming.
- A half-day session June 12 provides training and resources for attendees to support so-called second victims in the workplace.
Unveiling the campaign
Opening Session attendees were treated to a video on the launch of ASHP’s national public awareness campaign — a platform for personal stories about pharmacists and the critical work they do every day to care for patients.
- The We’re Your Pharmacist campaign will feature videos and writings from pharmacists that highlight how they improve patient care in all practice settings.
- Physicians, nurses, and other healthcare practitioners will also share stories about how they collaborate with hospital and health-system pharmacists to optimize patient care. Visit the campaign website regularly and get inspired by the growing story collection.
Policy takes the stage
The Pharmacy Futures meeting, like the ASHP Summer Meetings in years past, is where attendees can observe the work of the House of Delegates as it debates the member-driven professional policies that shape pharmacy practice.
- “These policies are at the heart of ASHP, guiding our advocacy for the profession and the patients we serve,” Kasbekar said.
A final word
“My year as your ASHP President has been an exciting one, and one that truly befit the theme of my inaugural address, which was ‘be the change you wish to see in the world,’” Kasbekar said. “I am so proud of how ASHP is so committed to supporting our members in the continually evolving healthcare landscape.”
