The ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition hosts an international-themed educational session in conjunction with the 2024 Donald E. Francke Medal Lecture. The session features international pharmacists, representing five countries, who will share how they are leading advances in practice, including the integration of environmental considerations into drug procurement; the influence of regulatory changes on hospital pharmacy practice; and the mitigation of risks from drug shortages through risk prevention strategies. The international session, Winds of Change: Trends in International Pharmacy Practice Influencing Healthcare Delivery (featuring the Donald E. Francke Medal Lecture), takes place Dec. 9 starting at 2 p.m. in Room 276, Level 2, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Rosalyn Cain King, recipient of the 2024 ASHP Donald E. Francke Medal, will present her lecture, Leveraging Pharmacists’ Services: one PEPFAR Solution. The educational part of the program follows, featuring short, practical presentations in a forum where the speakers can exchange ideas regarding global trends and best practices in international pharmacy settings. Each speaker will reflect on successful pharmacy services or challenges seen in countries that may have broad applicability in the United States and other locations. The sharing of ideas with an international audience helps shape best practice standards, which are increasingly important to regulatory bodies and public health entities and as international accreditation standards progress. In some cases, awareness of the inequities in the provision of and access to pharmacy services in fragile states brings light to necessary strategies and tactics required to care for communities.
At the close of the educational session, join the attendees from 4:45 to 5:45 for a small professional poster walk as part of the International Registrants Gathering and Reception. The poster walk offers the opportunity for select international attendees to present their work in an intimate setting. Participants in the poster walk will have increased engagement and discussion with the authors.
The session’s podium presentations and subsequent poster walk at the private event give international attendees additional opportunities at the Midyear meeting to showcase the state of and advances in pharmacy practice within their respective countries.
