ASHP extends heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the Feb. 9 shooting at the Allina Health clinic in Buffalo, Minnesota — the latest incident in the nation's tragic history of violence in healthcare settings.
"These acts of violence take a terrible toll on all members of the community and the entire nation," said ASHP Chief Executive Officer Paul W. Abramowitz. “On behalf of ASHP and its members, we offer our deepest sympathies to the victims of this tragic event and their families and colleagues. We remain grateful for the courage and dedication of the many healthcare workers who responded to this event and provided care and comfort to victims."
ASHP last year adopted a new policy, Role of the Pharmacy Workforce in Violence Prevention, which recognizes that violence is a public health crisis and calls for the profession to get involved in and help lead violence-prevention initiatives in the workplace and the community.
