This week, ASHP detailed its top advocacy priorities for 2026, focusing on supporting patient access to medications and pharmacist-provided services, advancing the pharmacy workforce, and ensuring the financial stability of health-system pharmacy practices.
Notable updates to the 2026 advocacy agenda include pathways for pharmacist reimbursement beyond provider status, advancement and implementation of standard of care regulatory frameworks, and commitments to increasing patient and healthcare professional access to evidence-based vaccine information.
ASHP will continue its advocacy with Congress, the administration, the courts, and states to safeguard the 340B Drug Pricing Program, support the pharmacy workforce, address medication shortages, and advance regulation of pharmacy benefit managers.
The 2026 agenda includes the following priorities:
- Expanding scope of pharmacist-provided patient care services in acute and primary care settings
- Securing payment for pharmacist-provided patient care
- Advocating for solutions to pharmacy workforce challenges
- Promoting the role of qualified pharmacy technicians
- Protecting patient access to safe and affordable medications
- Addressing societal barriers to patient care
- Protecting the sustainability of health-system pharmacy
“This advocacy agenda reflects our commitment to advancing policies that matter to our members and the patients they serve,” said Tom Kraus, ASHP vice president of government relations.
